10 CAN Inc. hosts banquet to honor lives lost during 9/11

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- 10 CAN, a local charity organization hosted their fourth annual banquet this 9/11.

The event "A Patriot’s Revival” was hosted by TV20’s David Snyder.

Tuesday evening, residents gathered at Trinity United Methodist Church to honor the men and women serving our country and their families.

The event’s host is a U-S Veteran who says the event raises awareness for the ultimate sacrifice first responders made on 9/11.

"When I showed my children the 9/11 movies, they were like 'Dad what's that?' And I'm like, wow, I've been fighting a war for 13 years and they don't even know why I was fighting the war,” Matthew Burke, the director and founder of 10 CAN Inc. said.

The Veteran of the Year award was given to Army veteran and Wounded Warrior, Freddie Chino Batista. Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

10 CAN Inc. hopes the annual event will grow larger and spread more awareness to the community in years to come.
